How about Traffic Skills? How about Traffic Skills 101?

All year we at TTR have had the opportunity to talk to people who are embarking on cycling adventures of some kind, from looking for adventures overseas to happily wobbling around, exploring their neighborhoods. We find that some of the most rewarding experiences involve helping those who are new to (or returning to) cycling gain the confidence they need to get by. 

Mostly, we do this via pep talk and encouragement, with a sprinkling of advice and expertise. We often find ourselves wishing there was more we could do than offer an encouraging word and a quick primer on patching a tire. Lots of people have asked us: "Isn't there a class, or something?"

Well, now there is.

Bikeville, your local advocacy organization, is sponsoring a 9-hour comprehensive course called Traffic Skills 101, conveniently spaced out in three sessions—beginning September 30, continuing on October 7, and culminating in an on-the-bike training session on October 9. The course will be taught by four—that's right, FOUR . . .  the number after three but before five—nationally certified cycling instructors, and the curriculum comes from the smarties at the League of American Bicyclists. This course is manatory for anyone planning to become a League Certified Instructor, and is just a good idea for the rest of us.
